Dr. Tommy L. Walker, DVM,
MS Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons From the top of his class to the top of his
field, Dr. Tommy L. Walker hailed from Texas A&M University
summa cum laude in 1974. With his neurology residency
completed at Auburn University and later his surgery residency at
the University of Tennessee, he remained at the latter as Associate
Professor of Surgery until 1988. An esteemed educator, Dr.
Walker has lectured at numerous American and European Universities,
national and international meetings including a formal address to
the World Congress of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. As a
Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, Dr.
Walker served as Head of the College’s Examination Committee, and
was Chairman and educator at the Forum for the Orthopedic and
Neurology sections of the College of Surgeons for ten years.
Cambridge University in Cambridge, England welcomed Dr. Walker for
a teaching sabbatical from 1987-1988. His contributions to
education have garnered teaching awards at every
level.
Dr. Walker has
contributed to numerous journals of veterinary medicine, and has
been published in a wide array of scientific documents, papers and
proceedings. His expertise and development of original
procedures have earned their way as chapters into textbooks on
veterinary orthopedics and neurology. Armed with keen
sensibilities for veterinary diagnostic and surgical advancement,
Dr. Walker worked with Dr. Barclay Slocum in the development of the
TPLO procedure for cruciate repair, and continues as one of the
foremost surgeons to progressively apply this
technique. Through his growing referral and onsite practice
in the Northern Virginia and Maryland area, Dr. Walker continues to
provide the most advanced possible neurological and orthopedic
surgical services and aftercare to all of his patients and
clients. With convenient, technologically advanced surgical
facilities at his disposal and a competent team of technicians and
assistants, Dr. Walker and staff maintain the highest in veterinary
medical standards and accessible, personal attention to each client
and patient.
As a community
supporter for the health care and placement of homeless or unwanted
animals, Dr. Walker works together with referring area
veterinarians and rescue organizations to ensure these potential
companions the best possible future! Dr. Walker, along
with his wife and partner Jayne, their children, and many animal
friends, make their home in the beautiful hills of Waterford,
