Dr. Mike Gast

Dr. Mike Gast started at Blue Ridge in October 2005. He was born and raised on a family farm in Valparaiso, Indiana.

Education:

  • S. Dairy Science 1995 from Iowa State University

  • Attended University of Kentucky studied Animal Nutrition

  • DVM from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003

  • Internship in Ambulatory and Production Medicine in 2004 from Cornell University School of Veterinary Medicine

  • Perform small animal and large animal medicine and urgent care

Interests include:

  • Bovine embryo transfers

  • Reproductive disorders

  • Dystocias

  • Respiratory diseases

  • Zoo medicine

Activities:

  • 4-H Dairy Leader and 4-H Veterinarian of Loudon County Fair

  • Board Member of Blue Ridge Cattlemen’s Association

  • Board Member of Pigs Animal Sanctuary

  • Member of Saint Stephens Catholic Church

Enjoys:

  • Running on the W&OD trail as well as a few 5ks

  • Spending time with my girlfriend and our three golden retrievers

  • Helping people

  • Motivating young people to pursue their goals

Fun Facts:

  • One of five veterinarians in my family

  • Own a small herd of registered Holstein and Brown Swiss dairy cattle and one beautiful horse named Aunt Bee.

  • Actively involved in the family farm in Indiana

  • Lease a small farm in Leesburg
